On July 22, 2017 we had the extraordinary honor of hosting a fun and festive “wedding after party” here at the zoo for newlyweds Kate Cassidy and Andy Luckett.
Andy and Kate tied the knot in June in an absolutely breathtaking ceremony in Ireland followed by a honeymoon tour of Ireland and Scotland. When they returned to Syracuse, the happy couple threw a party in the Courtyard at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo for friends and family who were not able to make the trip overseas.
Kate’s family grew up on Tipperary Hill and the couple had their first date here at the zoo – so we were the obvious choice for their big celebration.
Not many brides get to wear their wedding gown twice…or get their picture taken with a lioness.
Kate and Andy wanted a fun and relaxed party, so they included corn hole boards and a water pong table.
There were some really special moments at the party. Kate made her cousin Bobby her “Man of Honor” for the day.
If Bobby looks familiar, it’s because he’s one of our long time volunteers here at the zoo. He was thrilled with his sign!
Andy’s brother Pat was celebrating his birthday, so Kate and Andy surprised him with his own cake.
Kate and Andy’s photographer (and former college roommate) Mary Grace Johnson snapped some fabulous shots of the couple around the zoo, like this one in our Diversity of Birds open-air aviary:
We LOVE this dramatic shot in the caves:
And this one on the bridge next to the main pond:
While Mary Grace was capturing the day for posterity, their guests were having a ball enjoying the gorgeous weather.
So what do you do after a crazy-fun “wedding after party”? Head down the street to Coleman’s for the “After AFTER Party”, of course!
“May you always walk in sunshine.
May you never want for more.
May Irish angels rest their wings
Right beside your door”.
Irish Blessing
Congratulations Andy and Katie! We’re so happy for you both.
Many thanks to MG Johnson Photography for sharing the Luckett’s special moments.
